Christmas Eve Meditation for Kids
Close your eyes and take a deep breath in. Let your tummy rise like a snow globe filling with soft, sparkly snow… and then gently breathe out.
Let’s do that together five times to help your whole body relax.
(Pause for slow breathing.)
Now let your body get cozy and still. Your arms feel soft and warm. Your legs feel heavy and calm. You’re sinking gently into your bed, like it’s the fluffiest cloud drifting through a winter sky.
As your body rests, imagine you’re outside on a snowy Christmas Eve night. Your body is perfectly comfortable and warm. Everything is quiet. The stars twinkle above you like tiny lanterns in the sky.
One star shines especially brightly… and it’s calling to you.
This is your star.
It floats down slowly, wrapping you in its warm glow. You feel light, peaceful, and ready to go on a magical adventure.
With a gentle whoosh, your star lifts you into the sky. You float above rooftops and forests, over cozy homes and quiet hills. You see lights twinkling, snowflakes dancing, and you feel part of something bigger – something calm, joyful, and full of love.
You drift over families gathered together, sharing laughter and stories. You see kids setting out cookies with sleepy smiles and grownups whispering kind words. Everywhere you go, you feel little sparks of kindness lighting up the world.
People are happily giving and gratefully receiving everywhere you look. You are reminded how joyful Christmas can be – especially when we take time to be still and enjoy it.
And as you shine above it all, you realize something: Being a light doesn’t mean being the loudest or the biggest.
It means showing up with love, being kind when no one is looking, and sharing your calm, peaceful heart.
That’s what your star shows you tonight. Even the smallest light can brighten the darkness.
Even quiet moments can bring the most joy.
Even just being YOU makes the world a little more magical.
Stay up here glowing and silently observing for as long as you wish.
(Pause and follow your child’s cues for how long to continue.)
When you’re ready, your star gently floats back down, bringing you home, calm and safe. It settles beside your bed, still glowing softly, like it will keep watch while you sleep.
Take one more deep breath in… and let it out slowly. Wiggle your fingers and toes gently.
When you’re ready, say quietly in your heart: “I am peaceful. I am kind. I am ready for sweet dreams on this magical night.”
After the Meditation
If your child is already asleep – that’s the goal! If not, take this time to talk about anything they felt as they glided above everything as the star.
Throughout the rest of the holiday season, help them keep the peace, joy, and gratitude they felt during this Christmas Eve meditation.
